Les Douves
The “Domaine des Douves”, is located in the heart of the Loire Valley in the centre of the village of Onzain. It is surrounded by moats (hence its name). It’s on almost one hectare of land and has a walled garden located between the moats and the Cissereau stream – completing its indescribable charm. It’s built on the foundations of a thousand-year-old castle which was destroyed by the notorious Bande Noire (Black Band) between 1823 and 1826. The site is included in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments. The central island is accessible by both a stone bridge and a wooden footbridge, which allows you to admire the remains of the old castle and its chapel. You will be welcomed to this unusual place, full of history and near to the great châteaux of the Loire, by a couple in love with music and art.
