Priory in the middle of a botanical garden

Le Prieuré (The Priory) is situated on an estate of 3.5 ha which overlooks the Cisse Valley and the Forest of Blois. The site was originally occupied by the Romans, and later by the Carolingians. In the 11th century, by the authorization of King Philip I, the monks of Marmoutier (who came from Tours) built Le Prieuré and its church. These buildings, which were damaged during the 100 Years’ War, were rebuilt in the 15th century and then in the 19th century. Le Prieuré is surrounded by a botanical garden with a collection of more than 2500 different species, including a collection of more than 280 peonies, many fruit trees, a greenhouse and a large vegetable garden. The buildings, which were completely renovated in 2015 and 2016, offer five bedrooms and suites and a gîte (cottage) which are traditionally furnished and decorated with family artwork, all with full bathrooms, television, and wifi access. Two of the rooms, and the cottage, are air-conditioned.
